Lalandia

Admittedly Denmark does have very changing weather, but what does that matter when we have Lalandia. One second you are out in the cold, murky Billund - the next you are in a warm late-night italian village. Magic! What used to be office buildings are now made into a holiday paradise with restaurants, water play land, arcade, sports facilities, shops and more.

The first time visiting will probably impress you, but make sure to have other plans up your sleeve for the rest of your holiday. You will soon enough see through this buildings disguise - and have your ears begging to get away from the concrete walls and ceiling reflecting music, childrens laughter and people chattering into one big pile of noise.

Billund Airport

Even if I have been living in Billund nearly a year now, I still stop and stare at the sky whenever I hear the sound of a plane. It is just so fascinating how a stiff heavy pile of metal can hover above you in the distance with such elegance.

At Båstlundvej you can see that I am not the only one sneaking a peak. The signs along the road says it's prohibited to pull over, but the grass clearly tells that a lot of people disregard the rules and enjoy the view of the planes.

I would of course never ever encourage you to break the law, but would like to mention that it is best to do so when the wind is comming from the west. Planes have safer lift offs and landings when flying straight against the wind and when driving on Båstlundvej, Billund west wind gives the best view of planes in lift off.

City Center

A good place to start is taking a tour in the shopping area of the city. Billund offers a little bit of everything, so even if the centre is quite small it is a place worth a visit anyway.

Here you can buy clothes, shoes, jewelry, cosmetics - anything your heart desires - or the stomach for that matter. With pizzarias, restaurants and cafes, one should not have to leave hungry.

Google Streetview offers a good opportunity to get acquainted with the city centre - this link starts out at the town square.
